<h3><em>Faith: A Key Principle Of The Atonement...</em></h3>

<li>... to have confidence in or a belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
<li>... to hope for things which are not seen, but which are true.
<li>... a principle of action and of power.
</ul></p>
<li><p><b>General Faith</b></p>
<p>Faith requires you to believe in something so implicitly you are compelled to act on it. Faith always moves its possessor to some kind of physical and mental action. People have faith in various things on a daily basis. Without faith, no one would get out of bed. They wouldn't go to work, drive a car or take a plane. They wouldn't plant gardens. They wouldn't make travel plans. They wouldn't cash checks. No one would trust the expiry date on a jug of milk. General faith gives us a certain degree of confidence that what we set out to do, we will accomplish. However, general faith doesn't always produce the results we expect. Checks bounce, people are fired, planes crash, seeds die, milk sours, etc.</p>
<li><b>Faith In Christ</b></p>
<p>True faith must be based upon correct knowledge or it cannot produce the desired results. If your knowledge of Christ is based on assumptions rather than truth, the Atonement will have no effect for you. For example, if you think all you have to do is declare a belief in Christ, with no further effort, your faith in his saving grace will be useless, since it requires a great deal of work before you can reach the level for which grace can take over.</p>
<p>Faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel and is more than mere belief. Faith in Christ carries an assurance of the fulfillment of the things hoped for. For certain results, our faith must be centered in Jesus Christ and His Atoning Sacrifice. It must be supported by our actions. It must be preserved and strengthened by obedience to His commandments. A lack of faith leads one to despair, which comes because of iniquity and fear.</p>
<p>Faith in Christ is the only way to attain the salvation associated with the Atonement of Christ. By our "Faith in Christ" we obtain a remission of our sins where we can eventually stand in the presence of God.</p>
